Hyundai Kona 2024 review: 3 months living with the base-spec Kia Seltos and Nissan Qashqai rival

The 2024 Hyundai Kona is one of the most popular small SUVs on sale today – and for good reason: it offers strong levels of 'style', practicality, technology and safety, all of which are key considerations for buyers in the competitive mainstream segment, which also includes the Kia Seltos and Nissan Qashqai, among others.

So, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Andrew Chesterton has been living with the Kona's eponymous entry-level variant for three months to find out if it's all the small SUV you could ever need.

After all, the Hyundai's line-up is expansive, with a high-spec Premium grade available at a, uh, premium. Then there's the sporty but optional N Line package – and that's all before you consider which powertrain option you want. Will it be the 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol four-cylinder engine on test here, or maybe the 1.6-litre turbocharged unit? But let's not forget the 'self-charging' hybrid and all-electric alternatives. Point being, there's a lot to decide on here.
