In conversation with Edi Rama, Prime Minister of Albania

Bringing Albania to the EU has been the main political promise of Edi Rama, Prime Minister of Albania. But doing business with Brussels, is ´like waiting for Godot´, said Edi Rama. Since Albania gained candidate status to EU membership in 2014, the country has been waiting for concrete steps from Brussels to start the long and reversible process of accession negotiations with the Union.
For years, the Netherlands – among other member states – blocked the start of accession negotiations of Albania with the EU. But now, the war in Ukraine has confronted Europe with a new reality and important choices. What is the future of Albania and other candidate countries in Europe?
