"Sad but True" is a song by American heavy metal band Metallica. It was released in February 1993 as the fifth and final single from their eponymous fifth album, Metallica. The music video from the single was released in October, 1992.

The US version contained the title track and a cover of Anti-Nowhere League's song "So What". The international version has two tracklists. The first contained the same songs of the US version and a live version of "Harvester of Sorrow", while the second contained the title track, the demo version of it, "Nothing Else Matters" on its "Elevator version" (played only with an acoustic guitar, James' vocal and the orchestral arrangement) and a live version of "Creeping Death". The 7" vinyl released internationally contained the title track, a live version of it and a live version of "Nothing Else Matters".
