In this guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play Jimi Hendrix's beautiful "May This Be Love" in its entirety.

The tuning is Eb standard tuning, That is, starting from the 6th string, Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb. Or, if your tuner reads chromatic notes as sharps instead of flats, those notes will be D# G# C# F# A# D#.

This lesson is going to be a little bit different than my usual lesson videos. Typically, you will see me tackle a song note-for-note. But, I thought a better way to teach "May This Be Love" is to first demonstrate the main chords being used and then demonstrate how to create all of those fills that Jimi improvises around those chords.

Once you put it all together, you will be improvising cool chordal fills around those chords just like Jimi and it sounds amazing!

For the bridge section, I do cover that pretty much note-for-note since that is a much more straightforward part.

Then, for the incredible solo at the end of the song, I have once again decided to demonstrate what he is using to create those solo lines instead of a direct note-for-note tutorial. That solo is actually multiple solos comped together and swirling in and out of the mix. But you can summarize 95% of the solo as just E major pentatonic on the B string. He will only occasionally add the fourth note of the key (A) and b7 of the key (D). All of those notes together produce the E Mixolydian mode. But, it is better to just think of this solo as being based around E major pentatonic and that those extra two notes are just quick passing tones thrown in there every once in a while.
