[I'm LIVE] sEODo BAND (서도밴드) & Sarang-ga(Love Song) (사랑가)

Joining us on this week’s I’m LIVE is sEODo BAND, the pioneers of Joseon pop!

sEODO BAND is comprised of keyboardist Kim Seong-hyun, drummer Lee Hwan, percussionist Park Jin-byeong, guitarist Yeon Tae-hee, and bassist Kim Tae-joo. They made their mark in the Korean music industry by introducing a variety of twists on gugak (traditional Korean music), combining it with modern instruments and genres. Last year, the six took part in the hit music competition show “Poongryu” and took home the top prize.

The band’s vocalist, sEODo picked up pansori, a traditional Korean style of narrative song, also known as the epic chant of Korea, at the young age of 4. He then progressed Gugak Middle School and developed his skills as a pansori singer. With the desire to expand his artistry, he majored in composition at university and is now actively fusing gugak with other Western and contemporary elements to push its boundaries even further.

In this episode, sEODo BAND performs “City Lights,” “Sarang-ga (Love Song),” “In My View,” “BLUEBOY,” and more to impress our hearts.

손닿을 듯 가깝고 생생한 음악을 선물하는 도심 속 라이브 콘서트 [I'm Live]. 실력 있는 뮤지션들과 공연을 사랑하는 시청자들의 사랑을 한 몸에 받고 있는 [I'm Live] 271회의 주인공은 전통음악의 요소를 팝과 혼합한 '조선팝'의 창시자, 서도밴드이다.

서도밴드는 보컬 서도를 중심으로 김성현 (건반), 연태희 (기타), 김태주 (베이스), 이환 (드럼), 박진병 (퍼커션)으로 구성된 6인조 밴드이다.

2019년 [KBS 국악신예대상] 대상, 2019년 제11회 [대한민국 대학국악제] 대상, 2018년 제12회 [21C 한국음악프로젝트] 장려상을 수상하며 실력을 인정받다가, 지난해 JTBC의 국악 크로스오버 경연 프로그램 '풍류대장 - 힙한 소리꾼들의 전쟁'에 쟁쟁한 참가자들을 물리치고 최종우승을 거두며 대중성까지 획득하며 차세대 밴드로 떠오르고 있다.

밴드의 보컬인 서도는 다섯 살 때부터 판소리를 시작해 국악중학교를 다니면서 국악을 어린시절부터 익혔지만, 이후 국악만큼이나 대중음악에 대한 관심이 늘어나면서, 작곡과로 진학해 국악과 대중음악의 결합을 연구한 결과, 지금의 독특한 장르를 개척하기 이른다.

[I'm Live] 첫 출연하는 서도 밴드는 대표곡 ‘사랑가‘, ‘City Lights‘ 등 다양한 곡들을 선보일 예정이다. 서도밴드의 무대는 8월 25일 오후 1시 아리랑TV에서 감상할 수 있다.
