On January 15, 2026, former Minister of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment, Dion George, announced his immediate resignation from the DA.

Leadership Clash: He accused party leader John Steenhuisen of abandoning core principles and claimed the leadership had been "captured" by the ANC and other interests.
