Описание к видео Wrapping a Vase For Shipping

Soon I’ll be converting my pottery studio into a postage and packaging warehouse. The transition is one I always look forward to, as it means there’s a deep clean, followed by the mass exodus of hundreds of pots, which means I finally gain some space back. I keep all of my packaging materials up on the mezzanine above my workshop, this way it doesn’t get covered in clay dust or dog hair, although I’m sure that doesn’t stop either from eventually contaminated the parcels…

After the workshop is tidied, all of the paper, cardboard and boxes and thrown down into the main workspace, with Ciro temporarily confined to the kitchen out of harm’s way. It’s at this stage, perhaps a week prior to an online shop, that I order all the materials I’m running low on, but more specifically, the starch chips that end up filling the boxes. I tend to keep this stuff in stock as it takes up a VAST amount of space. I get through about 6-7 backs per shop update, each one swallowing up 15 square feet, so that’s about 100 square feet altogether.

The last thing I do prior to a shop restock is prepare all of the boxes, (or a rough estimate at least, as I never truly know how many I’ll need), and I also cut stacks of the paper bubble-wrap and corrugated cardboard, this way when it comes to actually wrapping pots there isn’t much downtime—the vase in this video was a one-off and was very much wrapped inefficiently in comparison.

It’s a huge part of my operation, which I still do entirely by myself. I always tell myself I’ll hire someone for the wrapping but it’s one of those tasks I can trust myself to do quickly and efficiently, although truth be told, it’s a skill I need to pass on to somebody as it eats up far too many days.
