Col Conk Bay Rum Shaving Soap | The Daily Shave

Hey what’s up everyone! Gerard here with today’s daily shave video, and today we’re rolling with as far as I know, the cheapest shave you can get on West Coast Shaving. Now a lot of us want to lean on the frugal side of things, and maybe you’re asking yourself, “Can I really get a decent experience for not a lot of money?” The answer is yes.

The soap we’re using is Colonel Conk’s Bay Rum. This is the 2.25oz puck. This is a glycerin based soap and while it’s not the best performing soap compared to some things nowadays, I had no issues lathering this with my brush. For about $3 bucks, you have your options on the scents. I’m personally not a big bay rum fan, but I know a lot of people are, so just choose whatever you want.

The brush I have is the Omega 49 in this red handle. This is a boar knot which I’ve broken in via the cold water method (Google it, it’s easy!). It easily picks up lather, splays nicely and as you can see, has given me a great lather. It can be splayed or used as a painter, but whether it’s a $3.00 soap or $30.00 soap it punches will above it’s price point.

I’m using the WCS 78S. Stainless steel handle with a chrome head. When these are on sale you can get it for around $16, sometimes less. Perfectly reasonable for a beginner or even if you’re experienced in shaving.

Post shave is Thayer’s Witch Hazel and Sudsy Soapery’s unscented balm. These are optional, and although they’re not the cheapest things in the catalog, they’re definitely worth their money in providing a great post shave experience.
