Big Log - Robert Plant - bootleg LP live version

A live version of the immortal track from Robert Plant’s second album after the break up of Led Zeppelin, the wonderful “Principle of Moments”. Recorded during the overseas tour of 1983.

The energy and character of Plant’s vocals show him in peak form. The band for the tour included Phil Collins on drums – he got around in those days across genres, eg was also drumming for John Martyn. On guitar Robbie Blunt, who was walking in Jimmy Page's footsteps. A stalwart session guitarist (as Page himself used to be!) from Worcestershire.

To my mind, this track combines driving mesmeric rhythm with crafted melodic qualities in what were, at the time, highly original ways. This will always be associated with the experience of driving on the open road…
