Brickyards with kilns in a characteristic beehive shape are one of the traditional industries. Its popularity in the Mekong Delta is due to the dense network of water transport routes, the availability of inexpensive fuel and a large number of customers. The production process is as follows: the clay is delivered to a brickyard where it is formed into bricks and pre-dried in the sun. Then, the dried bricks are dried indoors and placed in kilns, which takes up to several days, depending on the size of the kiln. After filling the kiln tightly, the firing process begins, first at a lower temperature to completely dry the bricks, and then at a higher temperature, reaching 900 degrees. Firing takes about 2 weeks, but it also depends on the shape of the kiln and the type of brick (solid or not). Rice husk is used as fuel, and huge amounts of it are used, at least several dozen tons per firing.
