Haddadi was the first Iranian to play in the National Basketball Association (NBA) when he debuted with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2008.He played with the Grizzlies until 2013 before bouncing around the league with the Phoenix Suns.

Haddadi also won gold medals at the 2007 FIBA Asia Championship, 2009 FIBA Asia Championship, and the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship. He was also named the MVP of the latter four tournaments.
