STORYLINE
Police said a suicide car bomb targeting a security force checkpoint has killed seven people in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar.
Police official Irfanullah Khan said the explosive-laden car hit the police checkpoint on the outskirts of the city on Saturday.
Khan says the dead included some police officers.
Government official Sahibzada Muhammad Anis said the suicide bomber blew up the explosive-laden car when police wanted to search it.
He said another 25 people were injured.
Local television stations showed devastation at the scene.
Saturday's attack follows a massive truck bombing in Peshawar on Friday, which devastated the regional headquarters of Pakistan's top intelligence agency, killing 10 people.
Peshawar has been hit by many of the near-daily strikes in recent weeks by insurgents avenging an army offensive against their stronghold along the nearby frontier with Afghanistan.
