EarthQuaker President Jamie Stillman's gear hoarding mentality

Описание к видео EarthQuaker President Jamie Stillman's gear hoarding mentality

Across the years, we’ve delved into the junk accumulated by many artists and producers. But for this episode of Show Us Your Junk, we’re looking inward.
In the latest S.U.Y.J episode, we’re staying right in our hometown of Akron, Ohio, and looking at some of the junk amassed by EarthQuaker Devices’ founder, lead designer, and president Jamie F. Stillman. Jamie’s gear collecting (or “gear hoarding” as he refers to it) began as a young teen and, through the years, has become extensive enough to fill his home basement and most of another building. Of course, that other home for the gear hoard doubles as the former EQD HQ and current practice space and studio. But still, it’s a lot of stuff. Jamie takes us through racks of vintage, classic, and some just old, cheap, and utterly oddball gear, from a pristine Roland Space Echo to an elaborate D.I.Y. multi-part pedalboard/spaceship/giant metal boomerang-looking rig with a “Frank Zappa” footswitch among its many settings.
If you’ve ever wondered what kind of pedal collection a pedal maker would have, here is your answer. Jamie’s got shelves filled with classic, vintage, and interesting pedals (yes, including the Miku Stomp and a fuzz pedal made by Marlboro). He’s also got drawers full of pre-EQD pedals and early prototypes of future and long-gone EQD pedals. Dig the extensive collection of beloved vintage and junky fuzz pedals with some classic tremolo and vibes. There are also synths, a plethora of nice and cheap guitars, including a few rare and custom handcrafted beauties, and a bunch of Jazzmasters. So sit a spell and check out Jamie’s junk, and perhaps if you too are a gear accumulator, you can commiserate with him as he talks of the anxiety caused by his decades of hoarding gear, some of which seldom gets used. Sure Jamie realizes that gear is made to be used and “shouldn’t just sit around and collect dust in a basement in Akron, Ohio.”
But hey, gear accumulators are gonna accumulate.
“The real hoarder mentality is that even though I know have all this stuff that other people could use,” Jamie says.
“The next thought in my head is...but it’s mine.”
Yeah, we get it, Jamie.
