However, the Central Government has recently identified large-scale misuse of the scheme through fake documents and ineligible beneficiaries, leading to a loss of hundreds of crores of rupees.

To stop this fraud, the government has taken a major decision to introduce a Unique Farmer ID for every farmer, similar to an Aadhaar card. This new ID will be linked with all land records of the farmer across India.
