In conversation with authors from the 2025 Information Book Award, SLA Marketing and Communications Officer Saira Aspinall, discussed the importance and impact of access to information books for children and young people.

This is a lively panel discussion, examining the role information books play in developing curiosity, critical thinking skills, and cultural understanding in young readers.

Our guest authors shared more about their shortlisted titles, as well as exploring how information books can bridge the gap between entertainment and education; the power of children’s books to make complex subjects accessible and engaging; and the ways information books can help to support diverse learning styles in the classroom, particularly in engaging reluctant readers.

We were thrilled to be joined by Kimberley Kinloch, author of Me and My Hair, Rashmi Sirdeshpande, author of Amazing Asia, and Ben Aldridge, author of Seriously Happy, as well as Chair of the Information Book Award judges, Helen Cleaves.

The discussion will span all three age categories of the Information Book Award (0-7 years, 8-12 years, 13-16years) making this webinar valuable for both primary and secondary school librarians, as well as teachers, literacy leads and all those with an interest in children’s information books.
