#Resmetirom

This past week, the FDA approve the first drug of its kind for the treatment of fatty liver disease. Resmetiron, brand name #Rezdiffra, was approved to treat patients with fatty liver who have F2-F3 fibrosis. The drug has been shown to reduce fat in the liver as well as reverse fibrosis (scarring).

For all those with fatty liver disease, the first step is to check in with your care team, and get an evaluation to determine the amount of fibrosis in the liver. This can typically be done with a #fibroscan test, MRI-elastrography, or a liver biopsy - in those specific cases.

Keep in mind that there are 80-100 million cases of fatty liver in the Unites States, and it is a leading cause of chronic liver disease, cirrhosis, and liver cancer.
