IMPORTANT NOTE for Renewals of NIE (some UNTOLD and UNCLEAR RULES):

-For resolution application with Officina de Extranjeros you can apply only when your NIE card validity is less than 3 months OR it is within 3 months of its expiry.
(For example: For a card expiring on 1st September, you can start your resolution application with Extranjería office anytime between 3rd June and 30th November)

-For fingerprints with CNP Policia you can only go when your previous NIE has been expired. i.e., it's run out of the date that is mentioned on it. They will refuse to take your fingerprints if your previous NIE card is still valid (even for just 1 day). So better be safe.
(For example: For an NIE which expired on 1st September, you can go for fingerprints with CNP Policia office from 2nd September onwards, as long as you got your favorable resolution from Extranjeros office)
