West Riding Automobile Company - Castleford Depot "Safety" Day 1985

In 1985, with bus de-regulation approaching fast, the Metro-National Bus Company of West Yorkshire organised a series of events to demonstrate their safety credentials. The aim was to get the public to start to ask how safe would be the anticipated new bus operators. Their fears proved to be correct to a certain extent as there were a few companies whose maintenance procedures were, at best, questionable but time seems to have brought standards up.

The Metro-National Bus Company was a joint venture between the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive and the four National Bus Company subsidiaries operating in the county: West Riding Automobile Company Ltd, Yorkshire Woollen District Transport Company Ltd, West Yorkshire Road Car Company Ltd and the Yorkshire Traction Company Ltd. It was dissolved after de-regulation and the abolition of the West Yorkshire County Council in 1986.
