Indian seafarer's advice on manning agents - A video by ISWAN

Описание к видео Indian seafarer's advice on manning agents - A video by ISWAN

Video of a seafarer advising others to join a ship only through registered manning agencies and to never pay for their employment. The seafarer in the video had to suffer the consequences of joining a vessel through an unregistered manning agent and aims to use his experiences to guide others.

In his video, the seafarer mentioned a petty tactic used by manning agents where they charge a hefty fee to the seafarers and then force them to work on smaller or unsafe vessels after they arrive in another country. To eliminate the risks of abandonment, loss of life and wasted sea-time, seafarers are requested to act quickly in such cases and to only join the vessel for which they signed up.

It is essential for the seafarers to understand the disadvantages/risks that they might experience while joining a ship through a fraudulent crewing agent. Read more to understand the involved risks and ways to report them: bit.ly/2NRWPNL

ISWAN South Asia is also running a campaign to discourage Indian seafarers from signing up with crewing agencies that have not registered with the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS). Read more: t.ly/wSF2
