After years of delays, the obvious answer might seem ‘not much’, but there’s more than you know going on behind the scenes at Hull City Council.

In case you don’t know, earlier this year crews finished removing asbestos from the old BHS building, which was the biggest step in clearing the way for construction and the main reason the project has been delayed so much.
Now, the council has just renewed its search for a developer to help deliver the £96 million regeneration project - and last week they invited developers to express their interest in making it happen.

Back in February, the council approved an extra £17 million to plug the funding gap and keep the project on track. Now they’re aiming to appoint a partner by the end of the year.

The current plans include 226 new homes, a multi-storey car park, office and retail space, plus a central urban park that’ll adapt to weather conditions with stormwater ponds and new greenery.

Importantly, the city’s history is staying front and centre. The iconic Three Ships mural is being retained and restored, along with Alan Boyson’s other Sponge and Fish murals, which will feature inside the new Community Diagnostic Centre - set to open later this year with MRI, CT and X-ray facilities, and up to 100 new jobs.
