Mumbai's undersea tunnel is a game-changer for the city's infrastructure. It's part of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP).

The tunnel is 2.07 kilometers long, with twin tunnels running 17-20 meters below sea level, connecting Girgaon to Priyadarshini Park via the Arabian Sea, Girgaon Chowpatty, and Malabar Hill.

Each tunnel has a diameter of 12.19 meters, featuring six crosswalks, four for pedestrians and two for motorists, with three 3.2-meter-wide lanes in each tunnel.

The tunnel's construction was made possible by a massive Chinese Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) named Mavala, which weighed over 1,700 tonnes and stood about 12 meters tall.

The Mumbai Coastal Road Project aims to reduce the commute time from Girgaon to Worli from 45 minutes to just 10 minutes during peak hours.
