This video shows the beginning of a CMT (Cold Metal Transfer) process. Used filler material is a Ni-based flux-cored Spherical Fused Tungsten Carbide (SFTC) wire. The video was taken with a high-speed camera and CAVILUX laser illumination. Illumination is applied from front to see the details of the core process. Schlieren imaging reveals the spatter created by the process and allows tracing of it.

Video was taken in cooperation with LAL - Laser Application Laboratory of Tampere University (former Tampere University of Technology).

Used camera: Phantom v2640 provided by Citius Imaging Ltd.
