YouTuber Marques Brownlee Faces Backlash for Speeding in Lamborghini Through Children’s Zone

This is not a year of Marques. After panels disaster, he has been involve in another controversy which is being viral on social media. Popular tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee, known as MKBHD, is facing a wave of criticism after viewers noticed a clip in his recent video showing him driving a Lamborghini at 96 mph in a 35 mph zone marked with a “watch for children” sign. Brownlee, who has amassed over 19 million subscribers for his tech reviews and insights, uploaded the video on November 11 but quickly faced backlash for the brief snippet, which critics called “dangerous” and “reckless.” One viewer expressed shock, tweeting, “MKBHD was doing 96 mph in a 35 mph 'careful children' zone... I hate cars.” Others commented on potential legal consequences, pointing out that such speeds could lead to severe penalties in many countries. Brownlee later edited the video to remove the clip, addressing the issue in a comment, saying, “Cut out the unnecessary driving clip that obviously added nothing to the video. I hear all your feedback on sponsored videos, too.”
However, the clip wasn’t the only reason for fans’ discontent. Some accused him of using the video, titled “How My Video Gear Is Changing,” as an advertisement for DJI’s new Osmo Action Camera, rather than an informative vlog. A viewer noted, “I remember when Marques said he’d never do a fully sponsored video, yet here we are.”
After editing the video, Brownlee issued a Twitter apology, acknowledging the lapse in judgment. “There’s no reason to leave that clip in… I would never want to make it seem okay,” he wrote. “That’s a terrible example to set, and I’m sorry for it.”
This incident follows another recent controversy for Brownlee in October over his Panels wallpaper app, where fans criticized the app’s pricing and monetization. Brownlee’s recent string of controversies highlights the scrutiny influencers face and serves as a reminder of the potential impact of their online actions.
