Was the Feral Predator in Prey a type of Super Predator?
In the Prey movie, when the Feral Predators biomask is knocked off and his face is revealed, the first thing I thought was that it reminded me of the Super Predator from Predators.
There are some similarities they share; specifically in the forehead area, how it has that more rounded-domed shape to it rather than the flatter shape of the Classic Predator type. Also, the colour is closer being that dull beige. Also, speaking of colour, the Feral Predator also has some red on him which is also shared by Berserker the Super Predator, where he had red hints in his skin, and in his dreadlocks; which brings another similarity in how like the Super Predator, the Feral Predator also had really long dreads too.
Both types also have eyes set further apart than seen on the Classic Predators.
Super Predators are another subspecies of the Yautja; they differ primarily in the face to the Classic Predators, with a different shaped head, larger mandibles, longer dreads, scalier skin, and are said to be slightly larger in size.
They were in a blood feud with the Classic Predators, but as of now it’s unknown if the Feral types have any involvement.
In Predators, we see three members of the Super Predator species: The Berserker, the Falconer, and the Tracker.
They are speculated to be bad-bloods, meaning they don’t follow any honour-code, and will kill anyone they feel like, even if they are unarmed, or otherwise don’t pose a threat.
While the Feral Predator does bare a resemblance in some aspects to the Super Predators as mentioned earlier in the video, there are differences also. The heads do look similar in shape, but the Feral’s head is more fleshy and doesn’t have the exoskeletal look of the Super Predators head.
The dreads are also a lot thinner and more numerous on the Feral than the Super Predator.
Also the mouths on the two are very different; The mandibles on the Feral Predator are a lot closer to the Classic type,
and their shape and the way they open closely matches the Scar Predator from AVP, who was a Classic Predator; they open out from the closed position and then vertically while on a Super Predator they open horizontally, and the bottom set are a lot longer too.
So while they do look similar, I think that Feral is not a Super Predator, and instead a third species, but I think could be more closely related to the Super Predators than the Classic Predators.
To my knowledge, the filmmakers for Prey haven’t commented on any connection between their design, and the Super Predators, but if they have, then let us all know in the comments section.
I wonder if there’ll be an official name given to this new type of Yautja, or if we’re just going with the term “Feral Predators” to describe them, and it’ll be interesting to see if they make any other appearances in other media such as comic books, or video games. Me personally, I’m looking forward to the NECA figure that’s coming out hopefully soon.
While I do like when they introduce new types of Predators, and I’m not against the idea, as I did like the Super Predators, but I wasn’t a fan of the design itself for the Feral Predator, or how they handled the special effects; to my eye, it looked like in the unmasked scenes they CGI’d over the face, kinda like what happened in the 2011 Thing prequel.
I don’t think it looked very good at all compared with the other two styles of Predators; it just didn’t look right to me, and is a design I definitely prefer with the mask on.
So thanks for watching the video, and don’t forget to leave a like on it for all the effort I put into making it, also you can now become a channel member if you want to support that way; and I’ll see you next time.
