Join Anna and Alf today as they visit FLINT CASTLE / CASTELL Y FFLINT in FFLINT North Wales, UK as Anna teaches some history of the castle and some Welsh language.

FFLINT CASTLE is the earliest and most unusual of Wales' English Built castles.
The first castle to be founded as part of Edward I’s campaign against Llywelyn ap Gruffydd (Llywelyn the Last) in North Wales, it was
built by EDWARD 1of ENGLAND between 1277 and 1284, it is really a castle within a castle.
Archaeologists discovered that it is also built on the remains of an 11th century castle.

This is One OF The CASTLES THAT KING EDWARD I OF ENGLAND BUILT IN WALES TO CONQUER WALES AND WAS CHOSEN FOR ITS STRATEGIC POSITION.

It was one of his famous ' Iron Ring Of Castles' which also include
2. Hawarden, 3. Rhuddlan,
4. Builth, 5. Aberystwyth, 6. Denbigh, 7. Caernarfon, 8. Conwy, 9. Harlech, and 10. Beaumaris.
Together, the castles of Edward's 'Iron Ring' represent Europe's most expensive and ambitious medieval military building project.
