With the popularization of artificial gemstone production technology and
the development of globalized markets, inexpensive artificial gemstones,
especially synthetic zircon, have reshaped the traditional gemstone market
landscape. This design takes the artificial zircon processing industry as its
background, mainly focusing on the opposition between the labor scene at
the processing end and the exquisite presentation at the commodity end.
Through the installation art "Echoes of the Synthetic Sublime", it explores
social themes such as order and chaos, production and consumption. In the
initial stage of the design, literature analysis was used to connect the history
of gemstone development, and field research was conducted in Wuzhou,
Guangxi, to investigate the offline gemstone processing industry. Finally,
interdisciplinary research methods were employed to integrate textual and
investigation resources. In the physical creation stage, forms such as
gemstone visual images, cutting sounds, and physical display stands were
combined to construct an immersive art narrative installation. The work
creates a sharp contrast by setting up a static display of gemstones in the
foreground and a dynamic noise environment of processing in the
background, aiming to reveal the labor value and flow relationship behind
artificial gemstones. This research expands the expressiveness of
installation art in industrial themes in terms of social topics and also
provides a unique perspective for the audience to reflect on the process of
