Here’s the start to finish from sanded primer to finish paint of my journey painting the 1972 C10 cab. From the masking to how I build a temporary paint booth in my shop for painting large projects. Video is self explanatory but I forgot to put in flash times for paint. I let the epoxy sealer flash for 20-30 minutes before applying base. Then I allow around 20 minutes between base coats to flash. I then wait at least 45 minutes to allow outgassing before applying my clear. Usually this is when I grab a bite to eat. Then I apply my clear. I don’t go by a time in between coats rather i overspray the clear onto a few sections of the masked plastic to judge when to apply the next coat. I’ll actually feel the clear on the plastic and see how tacky it feels. If it’s slippery it’s too soon if it’s tacky I will then apply the next layer of clear. This is the method I’ve used to minimize runs and still get minimal orange peel and a smooth finish.
