Reaction Drills - Likely the single most useful and underrated part of agility!

DO NOT work these drills into your training until the athletes have learned correct movement!

Once technique is solid, reaction drills become a key way to bring all your speed, power, and explosive strength together into real time!

Reaction drills can take many forms, and for athletes should mimic the sport’s attention - for most that means focus on a visual, and usually an opponent!

Here are just a few reaction drills to get athletes competing, moving fast, and THINKING FAST!

1️⃣ Mirror Drill - video is lateral only with an “out of bounds”, but these can be made more difficult by allowing backwards too. Stay quick, sets of :05-:15.

2️⃣&3️⃣ Mirror Drill with more athletes! Find the blooper 😂

4️⃣&5️⃣ Jump Versus Sprint Races. Experiment with different jumps an athlete can sprint from, and test the faster athletes with big head starts!

6️⃣ Tennis Ball Reaction Drill - usually starting with one ball and developing quick starts based on the drop, you can progress to having a decoy ball (videoed)!

7️⃣,8️⃣&9️⃣ Reactive Arrow Drills - using cones shaped like an arrow, add different movements together and give athletes a last-second command to react and move.
