2025 Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Record Lap Shanghai International Circuit

Porsche has once again set a record with its Taycan Turbo GT equipped with the Weissach package, this time at the Shanghai International Circuit. After previous record-breaking runs at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany and Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca in California, the Taycan Turbo GT now holds the title of fastest series-production car on the Shanghai Formula 1 track. Porsche development driver Lars Kern clocked an impressive time of 2 minutes and 11.28 seconds, securing the first-ever officially recognized lap record on this 5.4-kilometer circuit.

Kevin Giek, Vice President of the Taycan Model Line at Porsche, shared his thoughts on the achievement. "Each racetrack has its own distinct challenges, and we wanted to demonstrate how versatile the Taycan Turbo GT is by setting records on three very different tracks across the globe," he explained.

The Shanghai International Circuit's unique features posed their own set of challenges, particularly the tricky "snail curve," which tightens as it progresses, mimicking the shape of a snail shell. Despite light rain and slightly damp conditions, Kern was able to navigate the track with precision, praising the Taycan’s balance and performance. He mentioned that he reached a top speed of 300 kilometers per hour on the circuit’s fastest straight.

In addition to its impressive handling, the Taycan Turbo GT utilizes an "attack mode" feature that provides a temporary boost of up to 120 kilowatts of additional power for 10 seconds. Safety was also a priority during the record attempt, with the car outfitted with full safety equipment, including a roll cage and racing bucket seat.

The Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package, introduced in 2024, showcases Porsche’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of all-electric sports cars. With over 1,100 horsepower available during peak boosts, it continues to set new standards for performance and innovation.
