Presentation with Cards
Prerequisite:
The Beads

In this video I am using materials from:
Nienhuis Montessori USA | The Nienhuis Montessori materials ...www.nienhuis.com

Material:
First Presentation
A box containing four large cards:
1 in green
10 in blue
100 in red
1000 in green
A large mat
Second Presentation
A box containing four sets of large cards:
1 to 9 in green
10 to 90 in blue
100 to 900 in red
1000 to 9,000 in green
A large mat

First Presentation:
Invite a child
Introduce the activity and the material
Have the child bring the material to the table and sit down
Lay out the card: Slide them to the right
Show the child the card of unit 1 and ask him if he remembers the number
Show him 10 and tell him that ten has one zero
Introduce 100 by saying that it has 1 and two zeros
Introduce 1000 by saying that it has 1 and three zeros
Continue with the three period lesson, also during this lessons asking how many zeros
If the child is successful, go to the following exercise

Second Presentation:
Large cards 1 to 9000
Invite a child
Introduce the activity and the materials
Have the child set up a floor mat vertically
Have the child bring the box to the mat
Open the box as usual manner
Take out the cards, put the rubber band in the box
Show the child how to spread the cards out horizontally on top of the rug
Having the thousand on the most left, hundred next to it, and tent and unit at the most right
Take the whole stack of the unit cards and start lay them out vertically down while saying: one unit, two unit … ten unit
Next, take the whole stack of tens and do the same
Pick up the hundred stack and do the same : place the cards vertically down in order while counting
Pick up the thousand stack and do the same: place the cards vertically down in order while counting
Go sit down at a distance from the mat with large cards
Ask the child to have a tray and go with you where you sit down
Ask the child to bring different categories from the mat
When the child back ask what he brings and count them
Ask the child to put back and come back to you with an empty tray
Continue as long as the child shows interest
Show the child how to put away the material
Start with the unit by stacking them from top to bottom, and put them in the box

Note:
Always ask one category at the time
The child always comes with an empty tray before asking for another category
Two or three children can be doing this activity at the same time
A child can play the role of the guide

Control of Error:
In the child and his ability to recognize different category

Direct Purpose:
To make the child familiar with the names of categories as represented by the symbols
