As we made our way to to we realized that that x parasites still exist these creatures an x parasite mimicking an enemy will revert to its original gelatinous form when defeated. samus can absorb the x to replenish energy and ammo.

The X Parasite, also known as Unidentified Parasite Creature-X, is an extremely hostile, shape-shifting organism native to planet SR388. They are witnessed in the prequel manga, and make their resurgence the post-credits scene of Metroid: Samus Returns. The X are later discovered and eradicated during the events of Metroid Fusion. They kill and assimilate other life forms in order to survive and spread; though simple-minded and entirely driven by instinct, they are in fact a threat to all natural life in the cosmos if left unchecked.

Their very existence is what drove the ancient Chozo race to create the titular and dreaded Metroid species with the intention of wiping out the X Parasite, therefore triggering most of the Metroid series' events.

About Metroid Dread:
Metroid Dread is an action-adventure game developed by MercurySteam and Nintendo EPD, released on October 8, 2021, for the Nintendo Switch. Set after Metroid Fusion (2002), players control bounty hunter Samus Aran as she faces a robotic enemy on the planet ZDR. It retains the side-scrolling gameplay of previous 2D Metroid games and adds stealth elements.

Dread was conceived as a Nintendo DS game in the mid-2000s, but was canceled due to technical limitations. Industry commentators expressed interest in a new 2D Metroid game, and listed Dread in their "most wanted" lists. After their work on Metroid: Samus Returns in 2017, longtime producer Yoshio Sakamoto appointed MercurySteam to develop Dread, the first original side-scrolling Metroid game since Fusion. Nintendo announced the game at E3 2021. It received positive reviews.
