Hi everyone, KD7DUG here. In this video, I'm going to show you how to upgrade the speaker in your Kenwood SP-230 external speaker. This is a relatively easy process that can be done by anyone with basic soldering skills. The upgraded speaker will provide better sound quality and make it easier to hear CW and SSB signals.

Tools and Materials Needed

Replacement speaker
Fullrange 4.5″ Speaker “Pioneer Style” 8 ohm, available from The Speaker Exchange https://reconingspeakers.com/products...

Soldering iron and solder

Small screwdriver

Instructions

Start by disconnecting the speaker from your radio.
Remove the four screws that hold the speaker together.
Carefully remove the wires and speaker from the speaker housing.
Solder the wires from the new speaker to the speaker terminals.
Reassemble the speaker and screw it back together.
Connect the speaker to your radio and test it out.
That's it! You've now successfully upgraded your Kenwood SP-230 speaker.
