Darlington Pair :

The Darlington Pair is a very popular transistor configuration that provides very high DC current gain (β). Because of its very high β, it is also known as ''Super β Transistor ".

Because of its very high current gain, it is used in the application which required very high current, or when one wants to control or actuate any device with very small input current.

Application of Darlington Pair:

1) The final stage of the audio amplifier
2) Display Driver
3) Touch Sensor
4) Motor Control
5) Solenoid Control

The Darlington Pair is a composite transistor configuration, where the emitter of the one transistor is connected to the base of the second transistor.
Commercially it is available as a single package.
If β1 and β2 are the DC current gain two-transistor, then the DC current gain βD of the Darlington pair is approximately β1*β2.

Because of its very high current gain, it can be used as a switch to drive or control the load even with the very small input current.
Using the Darlington Pair, it is possible to control or drive the heavy load (Lamp, Solenoid, etc.) even using the microcontroller.

Disadvantages of Darlington Pair :
1) Large Base Emitter Voltage
2) Large Saturation Voltage VCE (sat)
3) Low switching Speed and Limited Bandwidth
