We address the lack of focus on the social determinants of mental health, such as local demography, the economy, the environment and climate, neighbourhood, society and culture. While poor mental health is increasingly recognised as a pressing challenge for people in low and middle-income countries, as well as a significant economic burden, little is known about the social determinants behind it which could help identify vulnerable groups and are crucial to developing effective interventions.

This workshop on how to use research to improve mental health through policy is part of our follow-up work for our groundbreaking first global mental health meeting in 2018 and is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
