This chill yet dancy track really embraces syncopation and layers of rhythmic interplay between amongst the melodic instruments and plucked sounds. An especially fun part here was finding the little spaces and pockets to create an ensemble of rhythms that almost blur the lines as to where the phrases begin and end. For a grounding element, I’m utilizing a classic four in the floor style kick to keep the dancy energy present throughout.

The locale is Wizard Island located within the majestic deep blue Crater Lake in Oregon. I was fortunate to have checked the Crater Lake National Park website the evening before heading there during my road trip, and to my surprise got lucky with a last minute boat/island tour booking (they had literally just begun the boat/island combo tours the day I arrived at the park). This meant I had to get up bright and early to drive 4 hours from my previous destination to make it on time for the tour, but my oh my was it worth it to experience the beauty of this lake up close and from Wizard Island! Following the summit hike to the rim of the caldera known as Witch’s Cauldron, I had the bucket list opportunity of immersing in a 20 minute swim in the icy cold crystal clear waters just off the island ‘s shore. This was particularly delightful in that it was peaceful with very few people instead of amongst the plethora of people at Cleetwood Cove. This also happened to be my first time ever walking on snow in July (the western quest road trip the previous year was also my first time walking on snow in June, next up on the checklist is August I suppose, haha).
