Описание к видео Final Friday: Artist-in-Residence Mokha Laget

Recording of a special discussion featuring our third artist-in-residence, Mokha Laget, alongside our Curator of Contemporary Art, Alexandra Terry, as they delve into Mokha's work at the Vladem Contemporary. Recorded May 31, 2024.

The artist-in-residence program is generously supported by a Frederick Hammersley Fund for the Arts grant at the Albuquerque Community Foundation.

Mokha Laget is a New Mexico-based painter renowned for her geometric abstractions that push the boundaries of hard-edge color field imagery through shaped canvases. Her work has been exhibited internationally for over 30 years and is featured in major publications like Art in America and The Washington Post. Her pieces are part of esteemed collections, including the Ulrich Museum and the U.S. Department of State.

Born in North Africa, Mokha studied at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, D.C., where she was influenced by the Washington Color School. She worked as a professional artist and studio assistant to WCS painter Gene Davis during her time in D.C.

Beyond painting, Mokha has served as a curator, art restorer, and arts writer, and has experience in theatre as a set designer, scriptwriter, actor, and director. With a degree from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, she has also worked as a French interpreter and translator across Africa, Latin America, Asia, and Europe. She currently lives and works in an off-grid studio in the mountains of New Mexico.
