How To Glue Tubular Tyres Like A Pro Mechanic

Glueing tubulars can seem daunting, but it's really quite simple - all you need is time. We asked the Cannondale Garmin mechanics for their advice.

At a Grand Tour like the Giro D'Italia, preparing and gluing new wheels is a weekly task for the mechanics. All professional teams use tubulars when racing because of the improved rolling resistance and decreased likelihood of punctures.

The process is fairly simple - building up layers of glue on the rim to ensure a snug fit once the tyre is finally ready to be installed. This process can't be rushed though - it takes several days of letting each layer of glue dry before continuing.
