New Focus RS interior functionality!

I add a new device to the interior of my MK3 Ford Focus RS! An official Ford Part, made by ACV and purchased from the excellent Rates Ford!

Inside the MK3 Ford Focus RS (and indeed most other models of MK3 Focus), there is a cubby hole at the bottom of the centre console that is literally just an empty gap for putting a phone or wallet or whatever and the only other functional feature that it has is a USB port.

Normally then, connecting a phone to the USB port with a USB cable would the only way to charge you mobile device, which is OK as it of course works just fine, but obviously it requires having an available cable and when you and your family/friends have different phones, this could get cumbersome.

Enter the new interior mod! The wireless QI charging pocket from the Ford Parts catalogue!

This item is a full replacement for the plastic cubby hole section of the dash, adding in a platform that features a wireless QI charger, rubberised top to keep the phone in place while charging, an LED status light and relocates the USB port down a bit so as to retain its availability while also opening up some space to allow for bigger devices to be charged wirelessly!

Being a full replacement and indeed ratified by Ford themselves as the official replacement product, once installed, this mod looks 100% OEM which is great as it looks like it is meant to be there and of course the fit and finish is perfect!

In this video, I show the full tear-down of the dash to get access to the fixings, I then show the removal of the old part, installation of the new part into the console housing and then detail the installation into the car, all before doing a test to show the functionality of the wireless QI charger!

In short, it just works! My Samsung Galaxy S8 (in a reasonably chunky cover) fits in without issue, as does my wife's Apple iPhone X (also in a cover) so the majority of phones should fit in there. Wireless charging starts immediately with the LED indicator light changing from red (standby) to blue (charging) and also it gives an audible indicator!

The wiring harness runs power from the 12V which means that the car doesn't have to be running in order to use the wireless charger which is very handy and I must say I am very happy with it!
