This is me replacing the crank shaft seal on my 2014 Chevy Cruze to fix a noise that's caused by the seal allowing air to get sucked into the crank case while idle. It can also allow a little positive air to escape out of the crank case instead of get sucked into the exhaust and recycled/burned, so this can have a very minor impact on acceleration performance. It's a fairly common problem.

A few months prior I had the intake manifold and valve cover replaced to fix a problem where either the PCV in the intake gets sucked in or the diaphragm on the valve cover cracks, both causing a vacuum leak and making the car idle rough. Shortly after I also replaced the variable valve timing solenoid gaskets to resolve oil leaks and also try to see if these were the source of the squeaky noise, but they were not. I also just replaced the serpentine belt tensioner but it was also not the source of the noise, so that pretty much left the crankshaft seal as the source of the noise.

I used an OEM AC Delco seal (GM part# 25193519) and bolt (GM part# 9129242). With shipping included, Ebay was the cheapest place to order these individually at the time. All power tools shown are available at Harbor Freight (though they are pricey; the 3/8" ratchet goes for about $130 and the 1/2" impact driver is about $270). I also ordered a Craftsman E18 impact socket from ebay just for this.
