Parichay is a 1972 Indian Hindi-language drama film, produced by V. K. Sobti under the Tirupathi Pictures banner and directed by Gulzar. It stars Jeetendra, Jaya Bhaduri; while Sanjeev Kumar, Vinod Khanna have given special appearances and the music was composed by Rahul Dev Burman.
Plot:
Rai Sahab A.P. Roy, a retired colonel, lives in his mansion with his five grandchildren, who resent him for their father Nilesh’s demise. A strict disciplinarian, Rai Sahab forbids music and laughter, making the household cold and joyless.
Ravi, a young man seeking work, becomes the children’s tutor. Unlike previous teachers, he wins them over with kindness, music, and play, gradually transforming their behavior. He also clears Rama’s (the eldest grandchild) misunderstanding about Rai Sahab, revealing the colonel had rushed to support them after Nilesh’s demise but was misunderstood. This reconciles Rama with her grandfather.
As Ravi and Rama develop feelings for each other, Rai Sahab returns to find his grandchildren respectful and affectionate, thanks to Ravi’s efforts. However, Ravi quietly leaves when Rai Sahab arranges Rama’s marriage to someone else. Realizing Rama loves Ravi, Rai Sahab rushes her to the station, where Ravi is about to depart. In an emotional climax, Ravi leaps off the moving train, reuniting with Rama, and the story ends with their wedding.
