Oliver OC-46 Crawler with Reverser — Showing Off Through The Gears

Описание к видео Oliver OC-46 Crawler with Reverser — Showing Off Through The Gears

1959 Oliver OC-46 Crawler Loader with 3-cylinder Hercules GO130 gas engine, built in Cleveland, OH. This is one of the nicest examples I have collected. Fortunately, it has always been well-maintained and not work-abused. It was purchased and owned for 40 years or so by the Wisconsin Conservation Department to help in their tree-planting operations and since then was used occasionally to move 'this and that' on a small hobby farm close to where it was originally sold in Sun Prairie, WI.
This video shows the famous Cletrac-invented 'planetary steering' in operation - powered by lever-operated steering bands cinching-up around differential brake drums. Note how both tracks move at all times, and receive full power at all times, thus revealing an advantage over clutch-steering models. Of course, the trade-off is a larger turning circle, but this is not a big sacrifice in many work scenarios. Planetary steering units are easier and cheaper to service too.
The video also shows the mid-rev ground speed in all four gears, and this unit has a reverser auxiliary transmission unit (often called a 'shuttle shift') which enables all four forward gears to be operated in reverse too.
