The Asian Development Bank has approved $8.32 million in project readiness financing for Punjab, Pakistan, to prepare and review priority irrigation projects. The funding will support detailed designs, safeguards, and capacity building to ensure timely implementation and ADB compliance. Punjab, which relies heavily on the Indus Basin Irrigation System, faces challenges from aging infrastructure and inefficient water management. The five priority projects include canal remodeling, Dera Ghazi Khan development, and Greater Thal Canal phase two. The initiative aims to improve water delivery, boost agricultural productivity, strengthen rural livelihoods, and promote food security and economic growth in the province.
