In this video, we will take you on a tour to explore the city of Somnath. Our tour begins with the famous Somnath Temple, a revered pilgrimage site for Hindus around the world. It is first among the twelve Aadi Jyotirlings of India. The finely sculptured temple is made of Gold and was destroyed 17 times and has a huge history that’s worth a read. Don’t forget to add ‘light and sound show’ to your bucket list whenever you’re here. Moving on from the temple we see the Veer Hamirji’s cenotaph, the martyr warrior who sacrificed his life to save the Somnath temple. Opposite the New Somnath Temple, is a pink, painted structure that has played witness to the colourful history of this land. In the 17th century this temple came under the rule of the Marathas. It is said that Ahilyabai Holkar was deeply moved by the ravaged state of the temple and took on herself the task of reconstructing it. Next experience the spiritual harmony at Triveni Sangam, where the sacred rivers Hiran, Kapila, and Saraswati merge. Participate in rituals and find solace in the serene atmosphere of this sacred confluence. Followed by a visit to Kamnath Mahadev Mandir Sharada Math. The temple complex was built by King Mayurdhwaj. The temple is 200 years old and the main deity is Lord Shiva, known here as Kamnath. The story behind the temple’s history is that Lord Shiva reduced Kama to ashes here by opening his third eye and hence, is called “Kamnath”. It is the seat of Shri Sharada Peetam of Sri Adi Shankara and the cave structure within the temple is where Adi Shankaracharya is said to have meditated.

Next, I visited the Surya Mandir. The temple is believed to be 5000 years old and is located in the northern part of Triveni Ghat. Sun God is the main deity at the temple. There is a small water body, the Surya Kund within its premises. Visited Panch Pandav Gufa / Hinglaj Mataji Gufa. It was discovered by the late Baba Narayandas in the year 1949. According to Mythology, it is believed that Pandavas worshipped Maa Hingalaj here, during their exile. The cave has a temple dedicated to Pandava brothers. There are also shrines in honour of Shiva, Sita Ma, Ram-Laxman, Lord Hanuman and Goddess Durga. The entrance to the cave is very narrow and low. Children will find it easy to climb down the steps. However, adults need to bend down and literally crawl down the steps. Next head to Gita Mandir, dedicated to Lord Shri Krishna and current structure of temple built in the year of 1970 by Birla Group. Discover the poetic verses of the Bhagavad Gita depicted in intricate marble reliefs at Gita Mandir. It was time to visit Shri Krishna's charan paduka, place from where Shri Krishna commenced his journey to Golokdham (a place from where Shri Krishna took departure). Shri Krishna’s disappearance took place on the bank of river Hiran on Chitra Sud Ekam day in 3102 B.C. Shri Krishna’s Mandir and Charan Paduka(foot print) is even today present at this place. Relax and rejuvenate at Somnath Beach, where the soothing sound of waves meets the horizon. Marvel at the beauty of the Arabian Sea, offering a tranquil escape. As we continue our journey, we will also visit Banganga shivling which is in the sea near Bhidiya village and also known as Baneswar. This Shivlinga can be visible during the low tides. It’s very exciting, nice and adventure spot. Devotee can reach here by walking on the stone path with sea grass and though sea water carefully. Before wrapping up the day one last temple I visited was Bhidbhanjan Mahadev Temple. This ancient Hindu temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva as Shri Shashibhushan Mahadev and Bhidbhanjan Ganpati Ji. Pooja Acharya Shri Bhav Brihaspati is said to have built this temple.
