INTERNATIONAL WOMEN IN BIOMEDICINE
DR NATALIA TRAYANOVA
Women make remarkable contributions to advancing the biomedical sciences. They are instrumental to advancing scientific discovery and innovation. They bring a diversity of perspectives in addressing some of the major health challenges faced in our communities. Regrettably, however, many of their contributions have been overlooked and, in a lot of instances, miscredited.
In late 2020, the Convergence Science Network launched the Women in Biomedicine initiative to celebrate and give a voice to the many local women researchers making important contributions to the progress of biomedicine. Through this initiative, we aim to acknowledge and demonstrate the imagination, creativity and impact women are bringing to the biomedical sciences and to improving the health of people.
We are very excited to announce the launch of the International Women in Biomedicine series, bringing inspiring stories of leading women in biomedical research from around the world to our community. These outstanding women are established leaders in their field and recognised role models for Women in STEMM.
Our first contributor in the series is Dr Natalia Trayanova of Johns Hopkins University. She is a leader in the application of computational models in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac disease.
They have shown great courage and endurance and are an example of how norms and obstacles have been conquered on their path to become recognised for their research excellence and leading the pathway for Women in STEMM who follow them. They will discuss moments in their career development, challenges and obstacles they have had to overcome and share their wisdom for the next generation of women research leaders.
