Like in previous years, I arrived at this joyful neighborhood in Manhattan for the Leisaida Festival. Amidst the festive atmosphere, I saw many people mingling among various stalls. Soon, a group of drummers began the festivities with a loud, rhythmic performance, their booming beats heralding the start of the celebration. Following this were Puerto Rican-style dances, with many dancers being long-time community participants. As they danced to Ines’s stall, they greeted their enthusiastic supporter, Ines, warmly.
At Ines’s stall, they were handing out posters celebrating Father’s Day, Puerto Rican Day, and even the Dragon Boat Festival. Meanwhile, Miss Chen, Ines’s assistant, was busy welcoming people at the stall, asking for their names, which Mr. Shao then wrote in Chinese calligraphy. Finally, Mr. Qi added illustrations beside the names. Look, a lady happily held up a paper with her name beautifully written in Chinese, accompanied by a drawing. Another girl, after receiving her illustrated name, joyfully posed for photos with the two artists. The charm of Chinese culture, excellently organized by Ines, won the hearts of many
