Henrietta was a human being who lived for 31 years. By all account, well before HeLa cells; Hennie as they called her, was a phenomenal wife, mother, sibling, cousin, friend, etc. She was greatly loved, admired and respected.
Henrietta Lacks last laps of her journey ended at Johns Hopkins Hospital. In 1951, as she faced death at Johns Hopkins Hospital, she was thrust into the limelight. All, due to a sliver sample of her cancerous tumor that generated the immortal HeLa cells. HeLa cells have been instrumental in research that brought about science and medical breakthroughs; Polio, IVF, HIV/AIDS, HPV, cancer, chemotherapy, Parkinson’s, Tuberculosis, The Flu, Hemophilia, COVID-19, NASA Zero Gravity Study, etc.
