Supporting Communication: A Personal and Professional Journey to Dynamic AAC

How did William go from a “non verbal,” “illiterate” tween to televised speaker, citizen lobbyist, and karaoke rapper? When he could not use “mouth words,” and her husband was killed in the World Trade Center, Laura was desperate to connect. William and Laura experimented, again and again, being denied dynamic, robust AAC. When William finally got what he needed (a version of which he uses 10 years later), Laura decided to become a speech language pathologist. She seeks to support him and his peers and to help others by explaining their journey. Their presentation gives personal and practical advice for a variety of situations, with videos, demonstrations, and discussion.
