Max Baillie - solo violin
The Asaka String Quartet

'La Serenissima' is an adagio for solo violin and strings that evokes Venice in the time of
Marco Polo (1254–1324). It is adapted from the first movement of 'Invisible Cities' (2017), a concerto for
violin, guitar, strings, and percussion, based on Italo Calvino’s novel.

“Memory’s images, once they are fixed in words, are erased.” Italo Calvino
