Описание к видео Tillamook Bay North Jetty

This video is about hiking the entire length of the Tillamook Bay North Jetty and then doing a bit of jetty fishing. Have you ever wondered what is out there at the end of the jetty, or what a fog horn would look and sound like up close?

Maybe you have seen one of the many videos about jetty fishing that skip all of the difficult parts and only highlight the one time that somebody was lucky enough to catch a lingcod, making it look artificially common and easy. There are a lot of jetty fishing videos out there that skip the perilous rock climb out to the fishing area, edit out the casts that resulted in snags instead of fish (most of them), and only show a successful fishing trip. The honest truth is that:

• You have a long, wet, slippery, and dangerous rock climb ahead of you.
• Any scrape or cut from sharp coral or barnacles can easily get infected from bacteria. They will easily slice right through Gore-Tex, so don't wear anything nice or expensive. It will just get ruined.
• You have to go slowly. Slipping and getting injured is the single biggest danger. You can't get back to the shore with a broken ankle, and ocean conditions could change on you if you become immobilized.
• 90% of casts result in snags and losing expensive fishing gear, not in fish. Blame braid, monofilament, weight, reels, rod action, technique, or anything else you like... Either way, you will get a snag. After that, you will probably get another snag.
• The scenery can't be beat!
• Sea creatures in the intertidal zone are fascinating. Starfish are quite common.
• Sometimes seals or sea lions will swim right in front of you while you fish (but not in this video). They are probably stealing the fish that you might have otherwise caught. They are amazing to see up close. They are also wild animals, so leave them alone and they will probably leave you alone.
• Sometimes, if you are very lucky, you might catch a fish. It's called "fishing," not "catching." Enjoy the scenery.

If you are interested in seeing what jetty fishing is really like when it has not been edited to look artificially perfect, here it is.
