Subscapularis is the strongest muscle out of the 4 rotator cuff and it easily gets tight if you sit down doing a computer a lot or even in gymgoers as they have tight pec and lats (which are also strong internal rotators).

It is shown in the video that the angle of a stick when doing massage is from the front to the back but if you drive a stick towards the back of your ribcage, it would be more effective as the scapula sits on the back of your ribcage.
